A new Cobalt Therapy Radiation Treatment Centre is inaugurated at Integrated Cancer Treatment & Research Centre Building at Wagholi, Pune. Cancer Research Project to evaluate the benefits of Ayurvedic Treatment was inspired and directed by Parampoojya Shri Prabhakar Keshav Sardeshmukh Maharaj in 1994. Cancer Research Project was started in 1994 by Prof. Dr. S. P. Sardeshmukh with the coordination of Dr. Arvind Kulkarni, the well-known Radiation Oncologist from Mumbai & Dr. Shirish Kumthekar, well-known Oncosurgeon in Solapur. The project has helped more than 4000 cancer patients over the last many years. Research reports are being published annually. The research has documented that modern cancer treatments produce better results when supported by Ayurved, Yoga and other complimentary medical systems. Ayurvedic treatment is effective to improve immunity & quality of life of cancer patient & to minimize side-effects of Radiotherapy & Chemotherapy. The trust was fortunate to receive generous grants from Government of India - Departments of Atomic Energy and AYUSH (Traditional Ayurved Unani Siddha and Homeopathic Medical Sciences) recently to develop a modern Cancer centre to combine with Ayurved and other complimentary medical systems. Cobalt Radiotherapy Centre was inaugurated by Mrs. Shreelekha and Dr. Arvind Kulkarni on Tuesday, 28th December 2010 which offers Radiotherapy & Chemotherapy, combined with supportive Ayurvedic Treatments. Holy Pooja was performed in cobalt radiotherapy room for the benefit of Cancer patients. This new cobalt machine called ‘Bhabhatron - II’ has a high power radioactive cobalt isotope to treat Cancer by radiation treatments. The Radiotherapy wing is dedicated to the memory of Vaidya Laxmibai Kulkarni, who was ex-corporator of Pune Municipal Corporation and a renowned Ayurvedic Consultant in Pune 60 years ago.
This cancer centre, giving full cancer treatments at affordable charges, will be of a great benefit for countless cancer patients who can avail safe and holistic treatments for cancer.
